Paducah Show is Coming Up!
Monday, April 6th, 2009
Two more weeks and we’ll be setting up for the AQS Paducah Quilt Show! For those of you that are used to seeing me at the Kentucky
Oaks Mall, I’ll be in a new location. I will be located at the Finkle Building, which is the “pink” building on 2nd and Kentucky, which is also where AQS sells their books. My booth number is 6211-13, but there aren’t a lot of vendors located there so I’m sure you’ll be able to find me. From the Quilt Museum, go through the parking lots to the alley that takes you to Kerchaf’s Bakery. After having a wonderful lunch at the bakery, keep going down the alley and you’ll run into Kentucky Ave. Turn left and you’ll see the Finkle Building on your right. If you haven’t been to my booth before or have seen Batiks by Design at other shows, be sure to look us up.  We’ve recently received more new Indonesian Batik motif fabrics and can’t wait to show them off at the quilt show. We have made new samples (show here, but much better in person), have many new patterns, and hope that our shipment of Hoffman Bali Pops will come in in time.

And guess what? I was able to attend!!! I loved it, but it is a very intense workshop. I’ve done a lot of paper piecing, but never anything with this kink of detail and with curves and a Mariner’s Star in the center. I decided to make the new Amazon Star pattern (left) that was published late last year. You can see what my center is going to look like in the picture to the right. Judy taught us a paper strip piecing technique for the Lone Star parts of the design that is easy to do and very precise. I haven’t finished that part of the quilt yet, but they are looking good. She showed us how to do the curves and made it look easy. I think the key is the glue stick! We used it instead of pins and it was amazing how it helped hold everything together without the bulk of pins! She used a Fons and Porter Glue Stick that is a water-soluble stick that has a narrow “point” that allows for more precise application. My regular glue stick had glue all over the place!
